"Dek Vant" is a new word which has recently been printed in its dictionary by The Royal Institute. The defined meaning is "teenage boy who likes to speed up his motorcycle to make a loud noise – vant vant". This noise comes from the sound of a modified motorcycle exhaust pipe including the accelerating sound caused by the engine while trying to escape the police. And also has given the definition of "Dek Skoy" as “teenage girl who paddles the boy's motorcycle in caressing manners”.
If talking about “Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy”, we often hear of negative news both on television and social media such as riding motorcycles at high speed which created noise pollution and seized public roads for their speed racing. These problems have been existed in Thai society for a long time. Although the prosperity in various aspects expanded these issues have not disappeared from Thai society, just shuffled from Bangkok to the perimeter areas and other provinces of Thailand.
Nowadays, aside from the speed racing culture, the entertainment activities of “Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy” have been developed in a well-organized manner. There are beautiful bikes contest, models contest including transgender. They also organized a concert to participate in the activities held. This change has been adjusted from what suited the tastes of city people to the favors of the community in the perimeter. The entertainment of these youths is flowing and changing according to the social context and the environments of the areas. In addition, they try to establish the scope of their entertainment activities under the terms of the law.
If taking a glance at specific characteristics of the activities that entertain “Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy” such as speed racing on the racetrack (in the event that a request to use the area is legal), partaking music and the expression of their identity through clothing, it could be sum up that the basic entertainments of this group of teens do not differ from general people. Nonetheless, a result of the technology of social media that has been articulated people's lives has rendered information and news to be spread rapidly thus news about activities of “Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy” were expanded to cultural differences area. The audience is like a god who is ready to judge by his own sight and arouse criticisms both through their own perspectives and many other people conform to the mainstream comments. Therefore “Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy” are the staid targets of criticism both in terms of images and activities.
This spectacle is called "Overall Picture". People looked through prejudice and criticized by their own feelings of what they had seen were wrong and different from themselves thus affected them to presume that they had the power to be ready to judge others. This creative work is the achievement of group cooperation of "Dek Vant” and “Dek Skoy” through Dance Competition, setting out the rules of the competition for physical manipulation and time. Within the image areas, it is aimed to present a small area of possibilities from the chaotic situation in the digital media era to induce the audience to watch and consider the appeared images in the new creation of visual field.
